WHEN the first flushes of flower car­pet and ground- cover roses start to fade, the plants can be heav­ily pruned to within a few cen­time­tres of the soil. Af­ter a heavy wa­ter­ing they will shoot into vig­or­ous new growth, then con­tinue to bloom well into early win­ter.
