PETE MURRAY

Blue Sky Blue – The Byron Sessions

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - MUSIC - Cameron Adams

THIS shoeless, campfire update of Murray’s 2011 album is superior to the original. The loose vibe – with his mates from Byron popping round to rework tunes – is exactly what you want from a Pete Murray album.

Bernard Fanning pipes up on Led, his former bandmate Darren Middleton adds trademark guitar work to H. O. L. L. A. N. D and Katie Noonan adds warmth to new duet Hold It All For Love. Last year’s single Free now features Busby Marou on vocals and vibes, and renders the previous version redundant. The title track is brilliantly reborn with spine- tingling vocals – and a rap – from Fantine and to prove Byron locals can break a sweat, Ash Grunwald and the Living End’s Scott Owen blaze up Hurricane Coming.
