AS statis­tics show that drink- driv­ing, health con­cerns and anti- al­co­hol cam­paigns are in­creas­ing the de­mand for lower- al­co­hol and non- al­co­holic wines, beers and ciders around the world, a friend who is on the wagon won­ders why ho­tels, bars and restau­rants are not of­fer­ing sim­i­lar non- and lower- al­co­hol bev­er­ages here. For­merly a noted beer man, he says: “There are some very good non- al­co­holic beers around, most of them Euro­pean.” Still en­joy­ing the con­vivi­al­ity of the bar, he’s now taken to car­ry­ing a slab of them in his car and fre­quent­ing those pubs that will al­low him to BYO. There’s an open­ing here for some­one.
