WHOLE forests have been sac­ri­ficed to writ­ers go­ing on about Aus­tralia’s “new” and “al­ter­nate” grape va­ri­eties. But, among all the tem­pranil­los, san­gioveses and arneises, you don’t hear much about the ali­cante- bouschet grape. Per­haps be­cause, al­though not com­mon, it’s not new. Here was a 378ml bot­tle of Ali­cante- Bouschet from Taminick Cel­lars in the Cen­tral Vic­to­ria, vin­tage 1975. Tir­ing a lit­tle af­ter al­most 40 years, but still giv­ing great plea­sure.
