Blown away by Bella
RACT communications manager Vince Taskunas and his wife Anne- Marie have fi ve children and two cats, Luther and Daisy, but Bella, their seven- year- old terrier cross steals the spotlight today.
Why did you decide to get Bella?
We have fi ve children, four girls and Paddy, who in terms of age is smack bang in the middle.
So seven or so years ago, when we got Bella from the Dogs’ Home, we got her in particular for our son Paddy.
That lasted all of around two minutes before the girls took Bella off him and adopted her into their “pack” and she became more so the family dog and especially Lulu’s, our youngest daughter.
How would you describe her personality?
In short, highly energetic. She loves fi nding holes in our fence and escaping but then just waits on our front porch to show off that she was able to escape.
Every now and then she’ll go for a little stroll and we have to go pick her up in the car. If you try and chase her or coerce her on foot, she’ll just keep running away but if you drive up to her and open the car door and call her, she just jumps up onto your lap straight away.
We don’t know what Bella’s crossed with but we wouldn’t be surprised if it was greyhound. She just loves running and is really competitive as well.
If we’re walking her down to the beach she always has to be that little bit in front of you and if you suddenly turn and run back from where you came from and she notices, she just whips around and chases after you.
Do you have any good stories about Bella?
We all went on a holiday overseas a couple of years ago and put Bella in a kennel to be looked after and, from all reports, she was a real star.
The people at the kennel loved her and she was a real favourite and so naturally they spoiled and groomed her. So much so that when we went to get her, there was a moment when I thought she didn’t look like she wanted to ever leave!
Suffice to say, the next time we went away we got one of our daughters to look after her.
What’s great about having Bella?
She’s defi nitely strengthened our friendship with a couple of friends of ours that are also dog owners.
No matter what is going on you can always count on her to be happy. Anyone interested in sharing their best friends’ stories can email luke. bowden@ news. com. au
