MY CHILD IS A MONKEY

ABC2, 8.35pm

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - TV -

DISTURBING documentary about a growing trend in the US where about 20,000 people have decided monkeys make the perfect pets. Some owners are so obsessed, their monkey becomes a surrogate child, or “mon- kid”. Any warm, fuzzy feelings viewers have will rapidly dissipate as the deluded owners recount – almost with surprise – that as the animals grow, they’ll bite, scratch and attack. By the time you witness monkeys at restaurants attacking fellow- diners, and learn that owners “alter” them via neutering and tooth removal in a bid to control them, it’s getting seriously weird.
