This week’s of­fer­ing looks back at one of the big­gest man- made dis­as­ters in his­tory, the Bhopal gas tragedy. In the early evening of De­cem­ber 3, 1984, the bustling In­dian city of Bhopal was thrown into chaos af­ter a gas leak ex­posed more than 500,000 peo­ple to toxic sub­stances used to make pes­ti­cides. The chem­i­cals caused se­vere dam­age to the res­pi­ra­tory sys­tem, re­sult­ing in suf­fo­ca­tion by drown­ing. It killed more than 3000 peo­ple and in­jured more than 500,000.
