TBy Enid Blyton, Illustrated by Jamie Littler, Hachette, softcover $ 12.99. HE Famous Five Colour Reads series pairs original Enid Blyton stories with modern colour illustrations, with the aim of bringing some of the works of this much- loved author to a whole new generation of readers.

For the first time, the complete text of Blyton’s short story Five and a Half- Term Adventure appears as an individual volume, broken into short chapters. With the text unchanged, I’m not sure how this will translate with today’s young readers.

However, some of this reviewer’s own fondest memories of school include being read the Famous Five books by our young male teacher, complete with all the voices, so if children can still find plenty to enjoy in the works of an author who has been loved for generations, so much the better.

In Five and a Half- Term Adventure Dick, Anne, Julian, George and Timmy thwart a pair of thieves who steal a valuable puppy from a dog show. Other books in the series include Good Old Timmy and A Lazy Afternoon.
