Depending on your age, this is a trip down memory lane or a fascinating insight into not just The Beatles phenomenon, but also a time of sweeping cultural change in Australia. In Adelaide 300,000 people – half the then- population of the city – turned out to welcome them ( schoolgirls were suspended for ditching classes to do so). There’s the story of London drummer Jimmy Nicol – who temporarily replaced a sick Ringo Starr on the tour – and an intriguing anecdote from now Federal MP Bob Katter – who in his uni days joined an attempted “egging” of the band as they arrived in Brisbane.
Season 11 is nearing its end and this week’s episode manages to combine a military court martial, a murder investigation and the mysterious disappearance of a key witness while spiralling into a heart- tugging study of homeless war veterans. Even the usually taciturn Gibbs ( Mark Harmon, pictured) drops his guard. Less surprising but no less emotional are the attempts of Abby ( Pauley Perrette) to help a homeless woman reconnect with her family.
