AT Wine Tas­ma­nia’s in­au­gu­ral state con­fer­ence a fort­night ago, ad­ver­tis­ing ex­ec­u­tive, Guy Tay­lor, said the use of tech­ni­cal lan­guage in re­la­tion to wine has a ten­dency to do more harm than good when it comes to the aver­age con­sumer. “It is lan­guage de­vel­oped for the cognoscenti not the con­sumer,” he said. A good les­son for wine­mak­ers and their back la­bels, and, I guess, for wine writ­ers like me.
