This charming New Zealand comedy set in 1984 is about a boy ( the enormously likable James Rolleston, pictured) who loves Michael Jackson’s Thriller and idolises his absent father. But when his dad Alamein ( Taika Waititi, also the writer and director) turns up, his hero worship collides head- on with reality. He’s just out of prison and looking for his buried loot. It’s a slight, but enjoyable coming- of- age tale. e.
