THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED RRP: $ 79.95 ( reviewed on PlayStation 4)
FOR PlayStation owners that somehow missed The Last of Us when it debuted just over a year ago, it is a multi- award winning, story driven third- person action- adventure, with a sprinkle of horror and survival.
The story follows your average every day guy, Joel, who has been tasked with escorting adolescent Ellie across an infection- ridden post- apocalyptic America.
And they must achieve this by using a combination of stealth, team work, and touch of brute force.
Based on record sales of the original game, it’s fair to say the vast majority of PlayStation 3 owners have already reached the rolling credits of this game.
For owners of the newer PS4 console, however, this is an enhanced version made exclusively for you.
Expect marginally improved visuals, with crisper images and smoother animations, as well as some additional audio improvements.
You also get all the extra downloadable map packs and the campaign expansion bundled in, that previously came with a price tag.
To be honest, the original gameplay has only seen slight improvement in this new version, which isn’t a bad thing as it needed little improving.
Last year’s game already featured smooth and intuitive mechanics, so any gameplay enhancements come mostly through the unique features of the PS4, such as actions that can be carried out using the touch- pad controller.
The cast of characters and the engaging story- telling remain the highpoint of this game, and this is all still intact from the original.
And as already mentioned, you get the complete package including an additional single- player campaign that expands on the story, plus a handful of online multiplayer maps.
The questions many, like myself, have pondered is, has this remastered version arrived too soon after the original, and is the asking price right for a slightly enhanced version of a yearold game.
While I can highly recommend this to anyone new to the series, for those that have already played it on PS3, and you now own the newer console, it’s hard to see the value in paying full price again.
