Clos­ing in­stal­ment in the classy se­ries of thrillers adapted from Stieg Lars­son’s best- sell­ing Mil­len­nium Tril­ogy. Per­haps not quite as com­pelling as staunch fans might hope, but there are many, many loose ends to be tied up. Show a lit­tle pa­tience and the fi lm’s fi nale will still de­liver. The plot picks up with rene­gade cy­ber- hacker Lis­beth Sa­lan­der ( Noomi Ra­pace, above) fi ght­ing back from the brink of death to ex­act vengeance on all of her ne­far­i­ous en­e­mies. As al­ways, the in­trepid jour­nal­ist A high- priced con­tract killer ( Tom Cruise) forces an LA cab­bie ( Jamie Foxx) to as­sist with an evening’s work. Cruise throws some con­vinc­ingly men­ac­ing shapes in his fi rst all- out bad­man role, but the real stand­out is the ag­gres­sively at­mo­spheric di­rec­tion of Michael Mann ( A stylish, com­pelling in- your- face thriller.
