SAMUEL’S WALKING TALLER BY THE DAY

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - WEEK IN MOVIES -

WHEN The Walking Dead returns from its mid- season finale, Australian actor Benedict Samuel will also be back as the mysterious “Alpha Wolf”.

Who is this dangerous stranger and what does he want? Don’t even think about quizzing Samuel for plot spoilers – he’s as in the dark as the rest of us.

“It’s all kept on the down- low, and on a need- to- know basis,” he says.

For the time being, all Samuel will say is his character is “enigmatic” – and trouble.

“I’d say he’s a charmer, a charming little wolf,” Samuel says. “He’s completely and utterly unpredictable, which makes it a really exciting thing to play.”

The actor admits he’s been blown away by people’s responses when he tells them he’s joined the cast of one of TV’s most- talked- about series – especially his friends.

“I find it amazing. People are like, ‘ Because this happened, I’m predicting this will happen’, and then they go on to explain their theories. And I’m like, ‘ You are really invested’,” he laughs.

“I like it. It’s a tribute to the show that it can invoke that kind of reaction in people.”

Samuel has finished his stint on the series and is now back in Australia. His latest project, Foxtel’s Secret City, is set for release soon, and he’s enjoying a much- needed break.

“I’m really happy with where I’m at now,” he says.

“Any job takes time to achieve what you want to do, and I think I am achieving that now. I will feel very happy when I can sit back and reflect on it all.” FX, MONDAY, 1.30PM; 8.30PM
