A dodgy cinema date

HOW TO BE SINGLE ( M)

Director: Christian Ditter ( Love, Rosie) Starring: Dakota Johnson, Alison Brie, Leslie Mann, Rebel Wilson, Damon Wayans Jr., Anders Holm, Jake Lacy Verdict: To fly so high, you gotta go solo NYC dating scene after breaking up with her long- time boyfriend.

Alice’s older sister Meg ( Leslie Mann) is an expert at flying solo. Her life partner is her career as a doctor, hence her decision to conceive a child alone through IVF.

Alice’s best friend Robin ( Rebel Wilson) is a power- partier who also has no fear when it comes to navigating the no- boyfriend zone.

If anything, there are two sub- plots too many – you’ll know ‘ em when you see ‘ em – and a few featured players who forget to bring their A- game.

Rebel Wilson is a real letdown here, lazily lapsing into her default mode of robotically saying random stuff so scenes without a point can be ended on the spot.

Dakota Johnson, however, shows a certain screen presence that is sure to develop across coming projects. All she needs is the right role ( it won’t be the next 50 Shades movie) and nextlevel stardom awaits.
