MELANIE Vallejo can keep a secret. A fortnight ago, the 36-year-old Winners & Losers star took to Instagram to reveal she was about six months pregnant.

Now that Seven’s drama has finished filming, Vallejo is moving on to the next stage of life.

Winners & Losers this week celebrates its 100th episode and Vallejo’s character, Sophie Wong, has come a long way. Sophie started out a raunchy party girl – booze, drugs and casual sex were all part of the equation.

Now she is more settled. She is in a relationship with housemate Luke MacKenzie (Nathin Butler) and still best friends with Frances James (Virginia Gay) and Jenny Gross (Melissa Bergland).

“Sophie is almost unrecognisable from the first episode,” Vallejo says.

“It took a long time but she found her feet. She has gone through lots of crazy promiscuous sex and changes of careers and lots of boyfriends.”

The fifth season of Winners & Losers will be its last, and Vallejo says the time feels right for it to end.

“The content of the show, about young women’s friendships, has really mirrored what we went through as actors – getting to know each other,” she says.

“When we got to the fifth season, knowing it was ending, there were a lot of tears – not only from the characters, but also the actors. We feel like we’ve shared so much of each other’s lives.”
