Brent back on the job

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - WEEK IN MOVIES -

David Brent: Life on the Road. workplace floor, David’s main focus these days is giving his long-held dream of a music career one last shot.

So with his annual holidays coming up, David plunders his super fund and blows a stack of dough on funding his own British concert tour.

Needless to say, it isn’t long before Mr Brent and his less-than-enthused hired band Foregone Conclusion are causing frowns and clearing rooms with original material that is abysmally average.

It is interesting to note that the musical component of Life on the Road is its weakest component. With a few exceptions, the many songs showcased here are never quite as funny as Gervais obviously thinks they are.

However, when the movie just gives us David Brent being David Brent – always oblivious, yet never quite obnoxious – the end results are some of the biggest grouped laughs I’ve heard in a cinema all year.
