8.30PM, ONE ★★★
A real shame this serial-killer thriller was released so close to David Fincher’s superb Seven, for it features writing and performances not all that far behind in quality. Don’t be too distracted by the against-type cast of jazz crooner Harry Connick Jr as a creepy convicted murderer. It is really the powerhouse acting of Sigourney Weaver (as a frightened academic) and Holly Hunter (as a seasoned detective) that sets this spooker apart from the pack. If you’ve passed this one over before, give it a go – you’ll be surprised.
