A true story of meteorology gone mad. In the late autumn of 1991, the crew of a small fishing boat was trapped on a treacherous Atlantic Ocean as three separate storm fronts joined to become the mother of all gales. Director Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot) stops short of representing these men as heroes. In the eyes of this movie, they are simply people going about their job, unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and looking for the composure that will help them somehow survive. A quiet, introspective George Clooney is the captain of the ill-fated vessel, a solitary sea-salt chasing the last big haul of the fishing season. Mark Wahlberg is his unofficial second-incommand, an ordinary working man prepared to back the judgment of his boss, come what may.
