What Is It?:

Get a handle on this mystery

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - TASSIE LIVING -

Try to get a handle on this mystery object.

THIS week’s What Is It? dates back to the mid-19th century, and with an untrained eye and a vivid imagination it could be just about anything.

The trumpet-like end on the bottom makes it look a little like it could be a musical instrument, but it was in fact used on ships.

Have a good look at it and see if you can work out what it might have been used for.

What is the handle for? Does it heat up and become too hot to touch? Or is it simply for ergonomics?

This week’s item was sourced from Annick’s Antiques in Battery Point.

If you know what it is, let us know at tassieliving@news.com.au

Next week we will print the names of those with the correct answer, and unveil our next mystery object.
