Last week’s What Is It? sparked a flood of responses from readers, many of whom correctly identified the object as a wooden fid rope splicer.
David Shuttler was the first to correctly identify it.
He was followed quickly by Adrian Jack, Philip Shepperd, Roy Crawford, George Hindley and Greg Wirth.
Readers also thought the object could be used for putting grips on cricket bat handles, or to help plant seeds and bulbs in the garden.
