LAST week’s mystery item was a mid 19th century salinometer from a steam ship boiler.
It was found at Annick’s Antiques in Battery Point.
Brad Walkley, Jenny Barnard and Allyson Lock were the fastest folks with the right answer.
There were a lot of fun suggestions.
Most people thought the item was a megaphone, an old-time loudspeaker, or a hailer used to call out to other vessels. “Ahoy there!”
Other guesses included a foghorn, an item used for measuring the rum and water for the daily tot aboard ship, or an underwater viewer — excellent suggestions all round.
