Thrip damage

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - GARDENING -

When gladiolus flower buds fail to open and shrivel, the cause is thrip attack. These pests breed in loose papery covering around gladiolus corms and old stems. Other signs are silvery streaks in leaves. Control is by stripping off all loose material and soaking corms in a pyrethrum and water solution before storing. Repeat this treatment before spring planting.
