Last week’s item from Archive Antiques was a measuring instrument dating back to the 1920s, used to determine the area of irregular shapes, usually on maps or drawings.
Bryce Atkinson was the first with the correct answer. Seamus Elder explained further, describing the planimeter as being used to calculate uneven areas involved in land measurement and ship design. Cedric Lockley, Philip Clark, Kevin Jacobson, Stewart Ross, Jo Chandler, Damian Devlin, Mike Peterson and Lindsay Bogg all also had right answer.
