Banksias are among the most beautiful and bird-attracting of all winterflowering Australian plants. Among the most prolific is the cold-tolerant ‘Hairpin’ banksia (B. spinulosa) which from autumn to late winter produces non-stop displays of honey-gold flower spikes, each covered with rows of glistening black, hairpin-like styles. Plants can go in now.
