If you want to bring lots of colour into your gar­den dur­ing late win­ter when things look fairly bleak, why not plant a few proteas now? Most flower from July to Septem­ber with a huge range of enor­mous, highly colour­ful flow­ers. Best of all, th­ese tough plants pre­fer a hun­gry but well-drained soil and sur­vive even the worst droughts.
