Per­sim­mons are ideal trees for au­tumn fo­liage colours. Leaves turn scar­let and pur­ple, usu­ally in early May, con­trast­ing with the golden fruit. New trees are planted bare-rooted in win­ter while the se­cret of suc­cess is reg­u­lar ap­pli­ca­tions of di­lute fish emul­sion and lots of wa­ter­ing, al­ways dur­ing spring and early sum­mer.
