AS reader Jacob George wrote in to say, last week’s item was a carbonated drink bottle opener. It was used to open the type of soda bottle that had a glass marble seal, such as a Codd bottle.
Reader Adrian Jack said once the marble in the bottle was pushed in and the drink poured, the wooden stopper could be inserted into the top of the bottle thus allowing you to keep the contents fizzy. Others with the correct answer were Judith Christie, Keith Brown, Stewart Edwards, Dave Malcolm, Judy Bignell, Bryce Atkinson, Gail Oakes, Mick Onions, Gillian Shannon, Rob Cunningham, Mark Bolt, Jan Blyton, Mike Baker and Rod Tedds.
