Winter Wonderland: Stay inside for a world of fun
As the weather gets colder and it becomes harder to get the kids outside to play, JENNIFER VEERHUIS offers some tips to encourage the little ones to stay inside for a world of fun
With the warmer days of summer behind us it isn’t always possible for children to head outdoors to play.
Rainy days and chilly weather mean the smallest household members will be spending more time inside.
So now is a great time to make your indoor spaces more child friendly.
Giving children a dedicated space is ideal, especially if you’re trying to avoid having toys scattered around the house. Set the scene with a beautiful rug and add a splash of colour to the walls, or try some wall stickers, to make the space feel like it’s truly a child’s own.
Children love somewhere to hide so explore some of the delightful indoor cubby houses, tents or teepees available – they’re perfect for escaping from grown-ups.
There’s also hours of fun to be had with toy kitchens, shops and tools workshops, which allow children to indulge in role play.
Art and craft is also a great way to keep them entertained on rainy days and they’ll love working as they sit at their own table and chairs.
A small lounge is a great option, while a few bean bags can also add comfort and warmth to the playroom setup.
It’s also worth taking the time to create a special area to hang their new artwork — it will become a colourful, much-loved space.
If the toys are getting out of control look at some of the great storage units and toyboxes available.
Open baskets and boxes are an easy option to encourage kids to clean up.
