Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - GARDENING -

Slugs are a big problem in most coolclimate winter gardens and an infestation can destroy even maturing brassicas, especially cabbages. They usually breed and remain hiding in mulching materials surrounding plants, coming out at night to feed. I sprinkle coffee grounds and even cold coffee into the bases of vulnerable plants as a very effective killer of slugs and small snails. The stuff can also be poured into nearby crevices where these pests hide.
