What Is It?:

You’ll have a whale of a time trying to work this one out

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - NEWS -

This week’s What Is It? item is a delicate little device, which was found at Archive Antiques in New Town.

Although it looks like a mouse sized salad server, you certainly wouldn’t want this item anywhere near your food.

We don’t know the age of this particular item, but we do know it was carved from whale bone to facilitate a centuries old habit.

The holes in the spoon-like end of the item are uncommon among devices of this type, but we are quite sure they are intended to allow air to flow through, which could be the key to this mini mystery.

If you can solve this week’s puzzle please send us an email to tassieliving@news.com.au Next week we will print the names of the fastest readers to write in with the correct answer to this week’s mystery.
