This week’s mystery object is an old take on a common household item.

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - WHITE HOT -

This week’s What Is It? item was supplied by Sorell reader Val Ransley.

Many of us have a contemporary version of this at home but this particular item dates from about 1900.

Many variations of this item have been produced since the 16th century in a range of shapes, sizes and materials, from wood to earthenware, zinc, copper, brass, glass and more.

The specific purpose of this item means it is most commonly found in places like the southern parts of Australia and northern Europe.

If you have worked out what this week’s item is, email your answer to tassieliving@news.com.au

The first of those to send in the correct answer will be immortalised with their names in print below next week’s What Is It?
