What Is It?:
It could well be tricky to find out what the point of this one is.
This week’s What Is It? item was sourced from Willow Court Antique Centre is more than 150 years old.
The item is about 1m long and the triangular end narrows to a sharp edge.
It looks like an old fire poker or an elongated paint scraper, but this metal rod was used for something considered much more controversial and taboo in contemporary society. It is highly unlikely that this tool was used for its intended purpose in Tasmania past 1900. The practice for which it was used was actually made illegal in Australian law late in the 20th century.
