NSW Waratah

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - GARDENING -

Perhaps the most spectacular of all Australian plants is the NSW Waratah (Telopea speciosissima). A cultivated variety called Shady Lady Red is worth searching for as it grows to perfection in deep, sandy, welldrained, acidic soil, but needs some summer watering. In a sunny spot it forms a bushy shrub, growing about 2m wide and tall in Tasmania and producing the blood-red flowers in spring.
