Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - HOME -

A surprising number of readers knew the specific role of this nautical hinge featured in the last edition of Tassie Living.

The bottom bracket with the protruding pin is a pintle, and the top bracket sitting over the pin, is a gudgeon.

The pintle and gudgeon set is used to attach a rudder to the hull of a boat, allowing it to swing.

Last week’s nautical know-alls included, Betty Jones, Phil Shepherd, Keith Brown, Peter Brown, Peter Fleming, Lesley Grano and Ron Akhurst.
