What is it?:
You’ll need to be ahead of the curve to guess this one
This week’s unusual item was found at Smith & Co Antiques in North Hobart.
At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking this may be the smoking pipe’s rusty cousin, based on the curved shape. However the wide, ring-shaped end of this gadget is hollow.
In its heyday the metal would have shown far less wear and tear. They may be less common these days but that does not mean they don’t still pull their weight.
At the other end of the metal pipe is a small flared ring, followed by a screw.
Judging by the coin pictured for scale, it is about the size of an adult’s hand.
