Childcare fees to drop

Sunday Tasmanian - - News -

PARENTS are on track to save more than $1000 a year on their childcare bills from government fee crackdowns before the long-awaited overhaul of the system comes into effect.

The latest Department of Education data reveals fees growth will drop below the long-term average over the next three years for family day care, after and before school care and long day care.

Over the past 10 years, fees for long day care services, which are used by 543,360 families, grew by an average of 6.8 per cent a year.

The latest data predicts fee increases will drop to around 5.6 per cent by 2019-20.

The slower fee growth is expected to deliver savings of about $430 per child, in addition to projected savings following the rollout of the Government’s childcare package from July next year.
