Court saddened over gay marriage fallout

Sunday Tasmanian - - News -

MARGARET Court says she is “sad” that her comments about gay marriage have led to conflict with her former protege Casey Dellacqua.

Mrs Court, 74, said she had helped train Dellacqua as a young player in Perth.

“It is sad because I helped her with tennis quite a lot when she was young, around the ages of 10 and 11,” she said.

“She’s never given my name that I did help. I don’t look at that, I’m just pleased for her.”

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has led a chorus demanding Flinders Park’s Margaret Court Arena be renamed after Mrs Court wrote to a newspaper saying she would not fly Qantas because of its support for gay marriage.
