Speed­ster clocked at 180km/h

A BURNIE man caught driv­ing at 180km/h on the Bass High­way, in the state’s North­West, has had his car im­pounded by po­lice for 28 days.

Tas­ma­nia Po­lice said of­fi­cers from the West­ern Dis­trict Road Safety Task Force on high­way pa­trol, near Sul­phur Creek west of Devon­port, recorded the speed­ing ve­hi­cle about 11pm on Fri­day.

The white Holden util­ity was clocked do­ing 180km/h.

Po­lice said the driver, a 22year-old Burnie man, was also found to be driv­ing af­ter con­sum­ing al­co­hol. He re­turned a blood-al­co­hol read­ing more than twice the le­gal limit for the holder of a full ba­sic li­cence.

The driver was ar­rested, charged and bailed to ap­pear in a Burnie court on a later date, while his mo­tor ve­hi­cle was clamped for 28 days.
