Speedster clocked at 180km/h
A BURNIE man caught driving at 180km/h on the Bass Highway, in the state’s NorthWest, has had his car impounded by police for 28 days.
Tasmania Police said officers from the Western District Road Safety Task Force on highway patrol, near Sulphur Creek west of Devonport, recorded the speeding vehicle about 11pm on Friday.
The white Holden utility was clocked doing 180km/h.
Police said the driver, a 22year-old Burnie man, was also found to be driving after consuming alcohol. He returned a blood-alcohol reading more than twice the legal limit for the holder of a full basic licence.
The driver was arrested, charged and bailed to appear in a Burnie court on a later date, while his motor vehicle was clamped for 28 days.
