MELBOURNE 18.14 (122) GOLD COAST 13.9 (87)

Sunday Tasmanian - - Sport -

Jeff Garlett kicked five goals for the victors.

The win is the Demons’ first in Alice Springs and pushed them into the eight before last night’s games.

Gold Coast tore away in the second quarter with their hard-running play, as Aaron Hall and Brandon Matera led the charge.

But this couldn’t be sustained and Hall finished with 29 disposals and one goal, and Matera 20 disposals and three goals.

Suns coach Rodney Eade cut a dejected figure after the match.

“It was disappointing. For two quarters and 10 minutes it was good, then we coughed it up, on two fronts,” he said.

“One, we got our hands on the ball then spilt it and weren’t good enough in tight, then when we had it we turned it over and got hurt the other way.”
