Remember the old school days
READERS of the Mercury and Sunday Tasmanian can explore the state’s history in our special 10-part magazine series of photos of life during World War II.
The third annual Pictures of our Past series covers topics including school days, regattas and shows, Tasmania at war, sport and more, all reflecting life in the island state in 1940.
We have searched the Mercury archive — housed at the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office — for the best and most representative images from 1940.
The liftout series starts today with school days and continues in the Mercury and Sunday Tasmanian until September 19.
Readers are invited to send in photos from 1940, or a few years either side, for possible inclusion in the Sunday Tasmanian at the end of the series.
Of particular interest would be personal photos of family experiences of World War II.
