Tassie flies high with world fish­ing event

TOURISM op­er­a­tors and re­gional busi­nesses are set to ben­e­fit when Tas­ma­nia hosts the 2019 World Fly Fish­ing Cham­pi­onships.

More than 1000 peo­ple are tipped to com­pete in north­ern Tas­ma­nia in Novem­ber and De­cem­ber 2019.

The State Gov­ern­ment an­nounced a $100,000 con­tri­bu­tion to the event yes­ter­day.

Lib­eral Lyons MHA Guy Bar­nett said lur­ing the cham­pi­onships to Tas­ma­nia was “ter­rific news” for tourism busi­nesses and the vis­i­tor econ­omy. “The World Fly Fish­ing Cham­pi­onships presents a great op­por­tu­nity to strengthen our brand by show­cas­ing Tas­ma­nia’s clean wa­ter­ways, beau­ti­ful nat­u­ral sur­round­ings and our world­class pro­duce,” he said.
