Queen’s new shades

Sunday Tasmanian - - News | World -

NOW we know why the Queen has been wearing sunglasses at recent public events including the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Her Royal Highness underwent surgery last month to remove a cataract from her eye, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The 92-year-old monarch, who otherwise seems hail and hearty, was treated as a day patient at the private King Edward VII hospital, London. Her Majesty “successfully underwent a short planned procedure”, a spokesman from the palace said.

A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye, leading to a decrease in vision.
