Police in hunt for armed robber
A HOBART bottle shop worker is being offered counselling after a terrifying encounter with a lone bandit armed with a gun.
Tasmania Police last night continued to investigate the robbery at Claremont Hotel’s 9-11 bottle shop on Main Rd, about 7.20pm Friday.
Officers have called for information and have released CCTV footage of the suspect.
Glenorchy Detective Inspector Craig Joel said a man armed with a shortened firearm entered the store, threatened a female staff member, before leaving on foot with an unknown amount of cash.
Insp Joel said no one was injured during the incident.
“The man confronted a female assistant in the store, this is a really brazen and confronting crime,” he said.
“The staff member is very shaken and obviously the [bottle shop] is abiding by their protocols and counselling is being offered. These crimes have a real effect, not only on the staff in the store, but people who use that store.”
The suspect was last seen running on Cadbury Rd and was described as about 180cm tall, with a medium build and short/shaved hair.
He was wearing a black long-sleeve top, black Hurley trackpants, black Nike sport shoes and a black face covering. He was reportedly carrying a white plastic bag with green handles.
