Foot­ball player dies af­ter game

A YOUNG coun­try foot­baller in Vic­to­ria was last night be­ing mourned af­ter he col­lapsed and died at the end of a match.

The Dunnstown Foot­ball Club player, aged in his 20s, was play­ing at Lear­month, north­west of Bal­larat, when he died about 4pm yes­ter­day.

It is un­der­stood he col­lapsed at the end of a re­serves match be­tween Lear­month and Dunnstown.

De­spite at­tempts to re­vive him us­ing a de­fib­ril­la­tor, and air and road am­bu­lances at­tend­ing the ground, he could not be saved.

The Cen­tral High­lands Foot­ball League state­ment said last night: “There was nothing which oc­curred within the match which led to the player’s col­lapse. The Cen­tral High­lands FL and its mem­bers are shocked at the tragic death of a Dunnstown re­serves player to­day.”
