Football player dies after game
A YOUNG country footballer in Victoria was last night being mourned after he collapsed and died at the end of a match.
The Dunnstown Football Club player, aged in his 20s, was playing at Learmonth, northwest of Ballarat, when he died about 4pm yesterday.
It is understood he collapsed at the end of a reserves match between Learmonth and Dunnstown.
Despite attempts to revive him using a defibrillator, and air and road ambulances attending the ground, he could not be saved.
The Central Highlands Football League statement said last night: “There was nothing which occurred within the match which led to the player’s collapse. The Central Highlands FL and its members are shocked at the tragic death of a Dunnstown reserves player today.”
