Federal’s data glitch ‘limited’

Sunday Tasmanian - - News -

COMPETITION entrants and web subscribers have been affected by a data breach at Federal Group hotels.

The company told guests of their two luxury hotels, the Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart and Saffire Freycinet, that “their personal data may have been accessed by an unauthorised third party” via email on Friday.

“We can now confirm that the breach is limited to some past guests, web subscribers and competition entrants that had elected to receive marketing and promotional material from Saffire, the Henry Jones Art Hotel and our Landscape and Peacock and Jones restaurants,” a company spokesman said.

“We also believe a very old list from a Federal Group tourism competition may also have been compromised.”

The system is now secure and the company is undertaking an internal investigation of the incident.

The spokesman said quick action limited the breach and “there was never any potential for financial information to be accessed”. Anyone who received an email from either hotel on Friday was encouraged to delete it without opening it.
