Feature event an open race as newcomers lay down challenge

- GREY MORRIS

GREYHOUND punters have 11 races to pick a winner from in a big Sunday night of racing at the Winnellie Showgrounds.

The main race on the program is the $1750 Holdfast Insurance Brokers Sprint over 537 metres, where a number of dogs can lay claims.

Newcomers Magic Cruiser and Gorham Bale for the Hans Spykers kennel will warrant some close attention, while Arnhem Rogue, Har and Black Jungle under Richard Smith’s tutelage are all capable of running big races.

Russell Savige’s Triple Crown Vin appears to be closing in on his first win and is ideally drawn in box one for the opening race on the program.

The Carol Pickard team continues to fire and Arabian Khaleese will take some beating in race two, the $1020 Sage Contracting Dash (383m).

Improver Bee Flash could pose the biggest danger, with Cosmic Rise and Zamlee Magic among the other frontrunners.

Greg Milne returned to the training circle last week with a winner and his charge Tate’s Ransom is capable of repeating that performance in race three, while Graeme Ferns’ Swansea Shannon has the form on the board in race four.

The fifth race on the pro- gram, the $1165 Sky Channel Dash (312m) has plenty of quality.

Andrew Lasker’s kennel will have a strong say with Dashing Geek, Bombay Rock and Out There Jerry all engaged.

Rob Brown’s dogs Trigger Bling and Madd Nitro will be at the front of the field in race seven, with last start winners Ashby Daze and grand old greyhound Arnhem Chaos among the best chances in race eight.

The lucky last is an even race on paper, with Joel Vansleve hoping Booberry brings his best form opposed to Volantis from her inside draw and the consistent Lay Low.
