Offender is ‘too old’ for such nonsense

Sunday Territorian - - NEWS -

A MAN who found himself in the lockup after he drunkenly pushed his former partner to the ground when she abused him has “realised he’s too old for this kind of nonsense”.

Oenpelli man Wally Djorlom, 60, faced a mandatory three months in prison because it wasn’t his first assault. But Judge Greg Smith said: “That would be monumentally out of proportion to the gravity of the offending.” He said Djorlom, who has kidney problems, was nearing the life expectancy for indigenous men in remote communities. He found exceptional circumstances existed.

Djorlom got two months in prison, backdated to his arrest in March and suspended immediately.
