Top End flooded with options to draw young ones out of the house

THOUSANDS of kids are rejoicing in a month off from school.

For parents it could be a daunting prospect having to entertain their children 24/7.

The Sunday Territoria­n has you covered with ideas that won’t break the bank and will keep the kids satisfied.

If the little ones like wild- life, check out the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Facebook page. They have a range of programs led by rangers across the Territory.

In Darwin, there are the Leanyer and Palmerston water parks and the lagoon at the Waterfront, which you can cool off at for free.

The Territory tory is a place waiting ting to be explored, ed, so why not take them out on a road trip to swim in waterfalls.

The closest watering hole is just 40 minutes drive away.

Berry Springs is beautiful and while there you can also check out Territory Wildlife Park and Berry Springs Tavern and Crazy Acres Cafe – where you will be able to get your fix of mang mango ice cream.

Li Litchfield National Par Park is a bit further do down the Stuart Hi Highway and provid vides endless waterfalls to go and explore.

In Katherine, you can visit the gorge, Mataranka and Bitter Springs and Cutta Cutta Caves.

Down in Alice Springs, there are a range of national parks you can visit.

You can also head to the Kangaroo Sanctuary and meet Roger the roo, made famous on social media.

If crocodiles are your thing, you can see them from a safe distance at one of the many Territory croc parks.

For those with an adventurou­s side, the Territory outback is a blank canvas, as long as you have a tent.

Tourism and Culture chief executive Alastair Shields said there were plenty of things to do these school holidays.

“The Dry season is a busy time of year and a great time to visit our local tourism attraction­s,” he said.

“A couple of great options include … Litchfield National Park and Berry Springs, which are open for swimming.

“With school holidays upon us, it’s also a great time to get out and about with the family.

“It’s a wonderful time to explore the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens, open daily from 7am-7pm, or entertain the kids at the various free school holiday programs on at Darwin Waterfront.”

For the year to March 31, Territoria­ns were visitors in their own state 664,000 times.

It goes to show that there’s nothing better than exploring your own backyard.
