Power and Water increases testing
POWER and Water has now ramped up the number of water tests it’s carrying out in the Katherine region.
Sampling has increased from being undertaken monthly, to weekly and more recently daily. Results indicate that per and poly-fluor-oalkyl substances are present in both groundwater bores and surface water source waters. The concentrations detected in the groundwater bores are above the health reference values for drinking water. Power and Water is aiming to achieve a typical situation where only river water is used. Last month, Katherine became the first Australian town to have compulsory water restrictions implemented due to PFAS contamination fears.
